Ever sat in the traffic and thought “Is this all worth it?”. You have some nice things, but not that nice. The job actually sucks. Even when you enjoy it, it sucks. In fact, you feel like you are always doing more work for less money. And just getting poorer every year.

You worry about retirement more and more, but you are years away from it. The mortgage never seems to get paid-off, the cars just get older but have no value. The things you buy just don’t seem to fulfill you. And you never really spend quality time with your family. Even December comes and goes in one big rush.

Most often you just seem to pass your spouse or partner by in the corridor between leaving for working and arriving home.
And the stress never leaves you. Not at night, not on weekends, not on holiday. Most of the time you just feel damn tired even when you have slept okay.

Ever sat on the couch watching television and thought “That guy has such a great job!”
How often do you think about living at the coast. Or in the mountains. Or being in the bush more often. Or having a more intimate relationship with friends and neighbours in a small town. The small town your grandparents spoke of.

And don’t you just despair at the traffic and the crowds till you wonder if you are still going to be sane in a year or two’s time.
Ever worry about the crime rate. How it is affecting you, changing you forever. Will you ever be able to sleep with your doors open ever again. Will your children ever feel safe, anywhere, if you keep living in a city.
This is not so much a step-by-step guide, but a motivational read to re-ignite your imagination, to stimulate some creative thinking about your future and plant some meaningful seeds about how you could get out of the city and reclaim your life.

This was written to get me to the point of making a plan to get out of the city one day. It was a search for clarity and also some methodology to accomplish a plan.
